Using Hue.app to overcome some HomeKit limitations that should really be resolved

Cupertino, October 10, 2020

We have 49 light bulbs and strips and about 15 sensors and dimmers from Philips Hue. Very happy with them. Dimmers and sensors are configured in Hue.app because they still lack a lot of Home.app features, such as

1. Possibility to control a room with a single control or transmitter (such as Hue Dimmer)
2. Relative regulation with transmitters (ie to function as normal regulators)
3. Act on changes in light level (for example, setting a threshold for when X is activated)
4. Ask the automators to return to their previous light settings after a set time

As far as I know, none of these things are possible in the house (but they are in the shade). A little weird, because I don't think they're particularly advanced or niche.

So I still use both Hue and Home for my setup, with Hue being responsible for the physical controls and sensors and Home for several custom lighting setups. However, they do not sync easily, and one application does not remember what the other did (for example, setting the lights to Home and then activating them and returning to the previous setting via Hue does not work).

What have you done to alleviate these shortcomings? I missed something? Other recommendations?
