Video Doorbell 3 run out of the ring has a few small updates

Cupertino, March 8, 2020

A peek at the product page for the upcoming Video Doorbell 3 Sound System shows some updates to Video Doorbell 2. Dave Zatz at Zatz It's not funny discovered the product page (it has since been removed, it seems), which included a "pre-roll" feature for the doorbell Plus model, which captures four seconds of black and white video before stopping a motion alert.

The product page described it as "the first feature on the market for battery door bells and unique to the Ring only," although Zatz points out that other video bells have this so-called "perspective," not just battery models.

The basic design of the Video Doorbell 3 does not look much different from its predecessor, but Zatz reports that the front plate of the new model will be easier to remove; will have a "near" motion sensor to reduce false motion alerts; and will have 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi (only 2.4GHz is available on Video Doorbell 2).

It is unclear when Video Doorbell 3 will be available, and Zatz notes that the product page does not mention support for the Ringwate Sidewalk network standard or Apple HomeKit support (this does not mean that it won't be included, except that no one was mentioned).

Zatz calls Ring Video Doorbell 3 a "decent, minor upgrade from Ring 2, with a smart upgrade for those looking for a little more security," adding that it's likely to be priced between $ 199 and $ 229.

The ring owned by Amazon has caught fire for privacy and security issues in recent months. In January, the company added a new dashboard for its app, to allow users to better manage their connected devices, including checking if local police departments can request video footage from a homeowner's call room.
