I read several posts about "Wake iPad on Motion" or similar and each. single. one. indicates the need for guided access. I tested this and it works great. BUT, this is best for wall-mounted or otherwise dedicated iPads. I'm trying to find a solution for an iPad that is NOT dedicated to HomeKit and for which the use of guided access is not an option, because my partner likes to watch movies in bed on the iPad, etc. I'm very open to hacks or "near-there" solutions, but I have a few needs: 1. It should only trigger when the iPad is connected (ie when in HomeKit mode). 2. You must not require a password, physical touch, or "lock" the iPad (for example, without guided access). So here's what I tried: * When the iPad is connected, set the volume to 5% or the brightness to 10% or something that can be controlled by "Personal Automation". Then, when the movement is triggered, check the volume or brightness for my known value, and if it's OK, continue with the Home app. * This does not work without guided access. * I also tried to go in the opposite direction (when no movement was triggered, etc.), but there is no way to set the brightness by personal automation converted to shortcut, only by the corresponding shortcut, hence the iPad I enter a strange state that doesn't quite fit any of my conditions. * I almost need a 3-state switch for this to work. * When motion is detected, start a stopwatch. After 5 minutes, reduce the screen (ie do not lock, only decrease). * This would work, but I don't know how to set the brightness back to a readable level when moving. This would require disabling the automatic lock (which is fine for me, though not ideal). So that's where I'm stuck. I'm very interested to hear if anyone else managed to break it yet.
