We need to explain: How does this work?

Cupertino, January 31, 2021

Hi, I just received some LIFX bulbs mounted on a Hue Bridge + Hue Dimmer switch. Everyone speaks through Homekit. I also have an Apple TV that I set to be used as a hub. The previous setup was just LIFX blobs on my wifi + phone. Now that I put my phone in airplane mode ... Hue Dimmer is still able to turn off the LIFX (cloud enabled) lights. Great ... but how does that work? Do LIFX bulbs talk to Apple TV instead of my networked phone? I know I can't talk directly to Hue Bridge ... or the router. Right? Also, Apple TV seems to be turned off in all of this ... does it have some sort of ghost mode to be a hub in the background while it's turned off? Thanks!
