What are the benefits of a ringtone compared to just one room?

Cupertino, October 27, 2020

So, I'm pretty new to Homekit and home automation more generally, but I make a living programming industrial automation, so I'm not totally stupid.

I opted for Homekit because more than anything I trust Apple a little more with my privacy than Amazon or Google.

Anyway, the doorbell on my new house is side-facing, rather than in front of the door. I wonder what the advantages are, if any, for getting a smart ringtone compared to maintaining the "stupid" ringtone and just for having an external camera facing the front door.

Are there any features and functionality that I will eventually lose? If so, is there a middle ground to a smart camera-free ringer that notifies Homekit when pressed?
