Wire support on HomePod mini

Cupertino, March 5, 2021

Trying to research the "thread" medium is amazing, given that the term is so generic that you can't search it effectively on the web or otherwise. What I'm trying to establish is what HomePod mini thread support actually means. Can an arbitrary application / device / raspberry-pi / arbitrary etc use that HomePod mini to detect and control (for example) a nanoleaf light (compatible with the wire) directly, OR it is the HomePod mini-wire that only supports one implementation detail between the HomePod and the light bulb and the only access that any user / third party developer can hope for in terms of light / switch / etc is channeled through HomeKit. Does anyone have a chance to mess with this? Still waiting for nanoleaf / HomePod mini in the mail ...
