Feel pretty stupid about this, but I figured I’d bring it up anyways. I’ve got the Arlo SmartHub with a doorbell and a couple Pro 3s. All recently purchased on sale for $330. It’s great, but would require $9/mo for Arlo subscription ($3/camera/month). I had wrongly assumed that getting them onto HomeKit got them onto iCloud. Yeah, missed those specifics.
I can see and access the cameras in HomeKit just fine, and I can plug a drive into the SmartHub for local storage (which is only available through the app if I am at my house), called Direct Storage Access. This gives some recent retention without icloud or subscription.
I like the idea of my video not going to some random server, but without the Arlo subscription the system seems pretty janky.
Looking for some thoughts and advice. Seems like a few people use arlo subscription and HomeKit.
