Zigbee as a range extender for HomeKit - combining IKEA and Hue

Cupertino, January 31, 2021

We just moved into a new house and I'm thinking of switching to smart lighting with HomeKit integration. For outdoor use and most lamps, I will use Hue products, so I will need a Philips bridge. From what I understand, the distance between the bridge / AppleTV and the farthest lamp should not be a problem, because the signal is propagated by each Hue lamp through Zigbee. To light some of the cabinets, I would like to use IKEA products with two tradfri drivers. To make sure they get updates, I know I'll need an IKEA bridge. Can the IKEA signal be highlighted on the hue signal or should the bridge be within range of the lights? Does homeKit integration mean that only the bridges need to be within Bluetooth range of the HomeKit control center, or do all the lamps need to be within range for HomeKit automation to work?
