Google has begun announcing that Nest camera owners in the United States will reduce video quality and bandwidth in the coming days. In a report published by The Verge, users of Nest cameras receive an email from Google about the changes, and Google has confirmed that they will be released in the next few days.

"To answer the global call to prioritize web bandwidth for learning and work, we will make some changes in the coming days," Google said in a statement to The Verge. "We believe that these changes have the potential to help facilitate the easier preservation of school, work and all."

Google claims that the reduction aims to help reduce the additional tension that has been put on networks nationwide in the last month. Further reduction will only affect users whose cameras are set to higher quality and bandwidth settings than the default options.

No other camera settings are changed, and users who want to revert to higher video settings can do so after changing. Google also stated for The Verge that users of Chromecast and Nest displays may also see a reduction in image quality and rotation frequency for its Ambient Slideshow presentation.
