Govee has increasingly caught the attention of Apple Home users since the advent of Matter. This isn't surprising, given their recent lineup of lighting products, all boasting Matter support through WiFi, rather than Thread. But Govee doesn’t limit itself to lighting solutions. Their latest innovation, the GoveeLife Smart Countertop Ice Maker 1S, aims to redefine our expectations of smart home devices.

Note that while this device includes smart features, it is not currently Matter-compatible. However, Govee assures that a Matter-compliant OTA update is forthcoming. Although it's wise to be cautious with such promises, Govee’s existing range of Matter devices suggests they are likely to follow through.

As the product name implies, this Ice Maker can generate nine bullet-shaped ice cubes in just 6 minutes. With its 2L/4.2pt water tank, it can produce up to 11.8kg/26lbs of ice per day. It also features a 0.68kg/1.5lb ice basket to keep ice ready for use. The machine offers three adjustable ice sizes: small, medium, and large. Small cubes quickly chill drinks without dilution, medium cubes are ideal for sodas and iced coffees, while large cubes are perfect for maintaining bottle temperatures over extended periods.

The GoveeLife Smart Countertop Ice Maker 1S sports a metal exterior available in black or silver. It includes a front-facing ice basket capacity indicator and a magnetic ice scoop that attaches to the side. An RGB ice basket light offers adjustable color settings, status indicators, and lighting effects, which is in line with Govee's affinity for multicolored lighting.

Currently, you can operate the ice maker remotely using the Govee Home App or through voice commands via Alexa, Google Assistant, or Siri Shortcuts. The app also allows scheduling for automated daily or weekly routines and sends smart reminders. Additionally, the ice maker is equipped with RGB lights and integrated sensors to monitor ice and water levels, both on the appliance and through the app, detecting when the ice bin is full automatically.

For greater integration with smart home systems like Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit, the Smart Countertop Ice Maker 1S will support Matter. This functionality will be available via an OTA update post-launch. While the specific options for Apple Home aren’t clear yet, basic features like on/off control, RGB lighting adjustments, and temperature settings are likely. It’s curious Govee is releasing this as summer fades, but their commitment to Matter support is evident!
