Korean electronics maker LG has today confirmed that it will add AirPlay 2 and HomeKit compatibility to some of its models made in 2018 through a software update that is due to be released by October this year, following its previous promise.
According to a new support document on the LG website, unveiled by MacRumros on Thursday morning, AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support come to LCD models with "SK" or "UK" in OLED names and models with "B8" through "Z8" in Name.
"AirPlay 2 and HomeKit will be implemented with a software update in most countries, except China, Iran, Sudan, Syria and Venezuela," the report added.
This is a notable change from LG's previous position that it will not bring AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to models made before 2019, as it could not guarantee a "seamless user experience."

In February, LG said that Dolby Atmos support will be added to the Apple TV app and AirPlay 2 feature on its 2019 smart TVs later this year.
AirPlay 2 allows owners of supported LG TVs to stream media from iPhone, iPad or Mac without the need for an Apple TV set. And with HomeKit support, LG customers can control their smart home devices with Siri or in the Home app on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
