HomeKit chief leaves Apple - HomeKit Blog

Cupertino, October 2, 2021

It was only in 2019 that we reported on Sam Jadallah joining Apple as head of Home Services. As MacRumors reports, the latter has already left Apple after less than three years.

Sam Jadallah had worked for Microsoft until 1999. Before he started at Apple, he had his own company, Otto, for luxury smart locks. This is one of the reasons why many saw him as a hopeful for Apple's efforts to advance HomeKit.

Not entirely unjustified, as Apple has introduced numerous HomeKit innovations under Jadallah. In addition to HomeKit Secure Video and Adaptive Lighting, Thread was also established as a new connection method. In addition, Apple will support the new smarthome standard Matter starting next year.

While Jadallah has confirmed on LinkedIn that he will no longer be working for Apple, the former head of Home Services doesn't tell us the reasons. Moreover, it is completely unknown who will fill the post in the future.

At the same time, it's not just Matter who's out the door. Apple also appears to be working internally on a new homeOS. Under this, Apple could soon bundle the operating systems for the Apple TV, the HomePod and future "Home" products.
