HomeKit Insider: Learn About Matter Vacuums, Wire Locks, and More

Cupertino, November 30, 2023

On this week's episode of the HomeKit Insider podcast

On this week's episode of the HomeKit Insider podcast, your hosts talk about a new Matter over Thread smart lock for the EU, Matter-compatible vacuum cleaners, and much more. The fourth generation of Nuki has been launched, this time with Matter over Thread. This lock is available to users in the EU and UK and works with Apple Home and other smart home platforms. It is the first lock to be marketed with Matter over Thread out-of-the-box. Most smart locks use Bluetooth with Apple Home or Wi-Fi through their own apps or hubs. Last week it was also revealed that SwitchBot's two robot vacuums would receive Matter support in early 2024. This would make them among the first to work with Apple Home. Finally, the Wireless Power Consortium revealed that Qi2 would launch before the holidays with iPhone 15 support in tow. We wrap up the episode with a few hands-on mini reviews of the Ecovacs X2 Omni smart vacuum cleaner and the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 2-in-2 MagSafe dock.
