In our own extensive device database, we had listed 14 devices of the manufacturer Koogeek so far. From the adapter plug, to a contact sensor, various light switches and multiple plugs, to the coveted Lightstrip with USB connection, Koogeek was also represented with its HomeKit devices with us for a long time. Now, unfortunately, we are removing them all.
For home use, we ourselves were recently looking for a simple, inexpensive lightstrip that can be conveniently operated via a USB port. Since we already have several Koogeek Lightstrips in use, we wanted to get some more. In vain!
The Koogeek devices we have in use continue to perform reliably. Especially the Lightstrip with USB connection and WLAN we have in use several times. Technically not necessarily a highlight in terms of color fidelity and brightness, but it always offered itself as a hidden accent lighting for use in HomeKit. At a price of often less than 20 EUR at the time, it was a clear choice for us.
Sporadically, however, we have also heard voices where all of a sudden a device no longer works properly. We can neither confirm nor deny whether this is related to the general situation at Koogeek. Generally, HomeKit devices also work without a server in the background. However, we do not recommend a purchase at the moment, in case there is still some left over somewhere.
We have no information as to why Koogeek has apparently withdrawn from the German - or entire - market with all of its devices. The manufacturer's website still exists, but shows no changes or news for over six months. Koogeek's social channels have also gone silent with meaningful content since 2020.
We have written to the contact at Koogeek for you and asked for background. We have not yet received an answer. If there are any findings, we will of course inform you here immediately.
