Kwikset Halo Select Smart Lock, Govee Ice Maker, and iPhone Standby Dock

Cupertino, October 28, 2024

In this episode of the HomeKit Insider Podcast, we discuss another new smart lock from Kwikset, talk about the viral iPhone StandBy dock, and test Govee's smart ice maker. Kwikset has launched the new Halo Select smart lock that works over Wi-Fi or can utilize Matter over Thread. It is a compact retrofit lock that also features a built-in external keyboard. Ecobee has also announced a new smart lock integrated with Assa Abloy brands August and Yale, allowing users to unlock their compatible smart lock directly from the live view.

Scott Yu-Jan's viral 3D-printed iPhone dock is now available for pre-order by Overwerk, which has adapted it to work with more phone models, both versions of Apple's MagSafe charger, and even some cases. The popular iPhone and iPad app Controller for HomeKit has been updated to version 7.2, introducing multiple new features including TV support and Control Center integration. Lastly, we get hands-on with the Govee ice cream maker, which will soon receive an update for Matter support. Currently, it is controlled via the Govee app, but it's still a smart product worth considering.
