Today Kwikset announced the upcoming launch of Halo Select, a new smart door lock designed with built-in Wi-Fi and Matter support. This lock allows for easy smart home integration without the need for a hub or being locked up. You can control the lock via the Kwikset app, allowing remote access, locking/unlocking, and granting guest access via unique codes or in-app notifications, with real-time updates to track activity. Once you integrate it with your smart home platform, you can control it from there too.
The lock's Matter over Thread support makes it compatible with HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and more. In addition, geofence technology ensures that the lock is automatically unlocked when a user approaches the house. “Halo Select represents the next step toward Kwikset's mission to provide homeowners with unparalleled security and seamless control over their home security,” said Jeff Sandoval, marketing director for electronics at Kwikset. By offering both Wi-Fi and Matter connectivity, Halo Select fills a critical gap in the market and provides a versatile, integrated solution that simplifies smart home integration. “We are excited to bring this innovation to market and continue to deliver trusted and reliable products that reflect the evolving needs of today’s connected homes.”
Some of the nice design elements include a touchscreen with keypad indicators and a door status sensor that confirms the door is closed properly. The lock also alerts users to security issues, such as attempted miscode or tampering, and has a powerful, quiet motor for quick operation. The lock is designed for DIY installation, requiring only a screwdriver, and is powered by AA batteries or a rechargeable lithium-ion pack. An upgraded model, Halo Select+, with NFC tap-to-unlock functionality, will launch in early 2025. Halo Select with Matter will be available in stores and online in mid-November.
