Say what you will about LiFX, but against all odds, they've managed to endure and return with some intriguing lighting products that, in many respects, think outside the box. The latest addition is a new light bulb featuring a rather unusual tube shape. The LiFX Tube is an E26 light bulb, which means it will fit into standard light sockets. However, due to its lengthy shape (151mm / 5.94in), it might be too long for some lampshades or other fixtures.
This is a bulb meant to be showcased, not just because of its unique shape, but also due to LiFX’s proprietary ‘Polychrome’ technology. This technology allows the bulb to display not only the typical 16 million colors (claims suggest billions) but also multiple colors simultaneously. According to the specs, the T10 bulb features 104 individual LEDs with an impressive 52 controllable zones. That’s quite extraordinary for a light bulb! However, it's designed for mood lighting since it tops out at only 5.2W at full brightness, so it won't be ideal for brightly lighting large spaces.
Like all recent LiFX products since its acquisition by the US lighting company Feat Electric, this new bulb supports the Matter standard, using Matter over WiFi to connect to your smart home. This means no hub is required aside from a Matter Controller. In addition to supporting the four major Matter-compatible platforms—Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings—it also works with Home Assistant and even Razer Chroma for gaming enthusiasts.
Currently, the bulb is available for purchase in the United States for US$39.98 at Home Depot. Its availability in other regions is uncertain, though it is compatible with both 110~120V and 220~240V systems.
