During a recent interview on the Decoder podcast, Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber caused quite a stir among HomeKit enthusiasts when she mentioned that the company’s Circle View products were “pretty much gone.”
However, it turns out that this information is not accurate, although the outlook for Logitech’s smart home devices remains uncertain.
In the interview, Faber continuously highlighted Logitech’s focus areas: personal workspace, video conferencing, and gaming. She appeared to be unaware of the smart home products, stating, “I think those are pretty much gone. I need to double-check, but I’m not even sure those are still being sold.”
Following these comments, Logitech’s global head of communications, Wendy Spander, issued a clarification to The Verge. “Circle View products are still in production, and we currently sell them (as do our retail partners). They have not been discontinued. They are in stock and ready to ship,” Spander confirmed.
This includes the Logitech Circle View camera and the Logitech Circle View Doorbell, both of which support HomeKit and Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video platform, making them popular choices for Apple users.
It’s concerning when a company’s CEO is unaware of the availability of their own products. Despite Logitech PR’s reassurance, I would remain cautious about the longevity of Logitech’s Circle View smart home products.
There are other HomeKit Secure Video cameras on the market, which I’ve previously detailed.
