I'm a huge fan of Logitech's Circle View security camera. It's undeniably the most aesthetically pleasing HomeKit-enabled smart home camera, and I currently own two to monitor my pets (and my home) when I'm away.
As a dedicated user and admirer of the product, I was taken aback when Logitech's new CEO, Hanneke Faber, mentioned in an interview with The Verge's Nilay Patel that Logitech’s smart home products — such as the Circle View — were "pretty much gone."
During the interview on Decoder, Patel highlighted that the company produces a range of items, from mice and keyboards to smart home doorbells. Faber's response was, "I think those [smart home products] are pretty much gone." When pressed for confirmation, she added, "I need to double-check, but I’m not even sure those are still being sold."
Logitech's CEO doesn't know what she's talking about
This statement understandably threw every Logitech HomeKit enthusiast into a panic. However, it appears that Logitech's new CEO might have been mistaken when she implied that their smart home products, like the Circle View Doorbell, were being discontinued.
In a statement to The Verge following the interview, Logitech’s Wendy Spander, the global head of communications, clarified that these products are indeed still available. Spander assured, “The Circle View products are still in production, and we currently sell them (as do our retail partners). They have not been discontinued. They are in stock and ready to ship.”
Of course, just because the Circle View products are available now doesn't guarantee they won't be phased out eventually. The company's focus has shifted to three main areas: personal workspace, video conferencing, and gaming. Smart home products seem to be a lower priority. Even so, Faber confirmed that if Logitech were to discontinue the Circle View line, they would "continue to support, of course, what we’ve sold for some time."
I sincerely hope the company continues to invest in its smart home products. Logitech is one of the few brands supporting HomeKit Secure Video, and losing them would drastically reduce options for HomeKit fans like myself.
