Marantz Launches AirPlay 2 Speakers Priced from $3,500

Cupertino, October 24, 2024

Marantz is a well-regarded name among audiophiles, and the company has recently unveiled two new premium speakers equipped with AirPlay 2 capabilities. Starting at a price of US$3,500 – with an additional US$700 for the optional stand – one would expect at least the inclusion of AirPlay 2 functionality along with outstanding sound performance.

The two models being introduced are the Horizon and its bigger counterpart, the Grand Horizon. Both showcase a distinctive design reminiscent of a car's wheel and tire, positioned on a plinth. The smaller model retails for US$3,500, while the larger variant is priced at an additional US$2,000, totaling US$5,500.

They both support Dolby Atmos, Bluetooth (5.4), HDMI eARC, and ARC, in addition to featuring integrated HEOS technology, which stands for ‘Home Entertainment Operating System’. This is a wireless multi-room audio system (developed by Denon) that enables users to stream music throughout their home using compatible smart speakers and audio devices. A USB-C port is also available for connecting mass storage devices with audio files.

The system supports various streaming platforms, including Amazon Music, Deezer, iHeart Radio, Pandora, Tidal, Sirius XM, Spotify Connect, and more. For those using Apple devices, AirPlay 2 facilitates seamless streaming to these speakers as well as others in perfect synchronization.

Both models are available in three stunning finishes: Midnight Sky, Moon Ray, or Marantz Champagne, each paired with matching plinths. Given the size and pricing variations, it is expected that the specifications differ in certain areas (Horizon vs. Grand Horizon, respectively);

  • Total Amplifier Power (peak, raw amplifier power) – 1160W | 1400W
  • Loudspeaker Array –
    • Bass: 1 x 6.5″ | 1 x 8″
    • Wideband: 3 x 2″ | 4 x 3″
    • High Frequency: 2 x 1″ | 3 x 1″
  • Performance –
    • Freq. response: 30Hz to 20kHz (+/-3dB), 22Hz (-10dB) | 28Hz to 20kHz (+/-3dB), 18Hz (-10dB)
    • Max. SPL: 104dB (1M) | 111dB (1M)
    • Peak SPL: 114.5dB (1M) | 122dB (1M)

The speakers are crafted using luxurious materials and designs, showcasing where your investment is going. Notably, they feature discreet LED indicators that encircle the inner ring, displaying the current volume setting. For a preview, you can view the promotional video below;
