Nanoleaf Announces New Matter Multicolour LED Strip

Cupertino, April 26, 2024

Nanoleaf, a leading Canadian brand in smart lighting, released a video on their YouTube channel today, unveiling a new light strip in their Essentials range. The new strip represents a departure from previous models with a couple of notable variations.

Firstly, while Matter compatible, it does not use Thread technology. Instead, Nanoleaf chose to incorporate Matter over WiFi. This might disappoint some users. The new strip boasts multiple colour options along its 16.4ft/ 5m length. It features 60 LEDs per metre, totalling 300 LEDs. The strip can be cut accordingly, with a cutting line provided every six LEDs. No smaller sizes seem to be available at the moment.

The strip also comes with an updated controller that includes new features, such as music mode, and controls for power and brightness.

Thanks to Matter support, the strip can be integrated with Apple Home. It can display both cool and warm whites, as well as the standard 16 million colors. However, due to this feature being an Apple Home exclusive, the strip does not support Adaptive Lighting. It offers a decent brightness of 550lm per metre.

Interestingly, despite this announcement on their YouTube, there are no indications of it on the US Nanoleaf store as of the time of writing. However, it is available on the company's German site (thanks Yannic) for €69,99.
