It seems we're always closer to the Christmas festivities than we think, with both physical and online stores launching all kinds of themed products well in advance. So now it looks like Nanoleaf is getting involved as well, with pre-orders for their Smart Holiday String Lights now available through their online store.

Capable of 16 million colors or warm/cool white, the new string lights are – as you would expect from Nanoleaf – Matter compatible. However, surprisingly, they don't use Thread on this occasion. Instead, they utilize Matter over WiFi lighting. They are still compatible with the four major platforms, and a Thread Border Router is not required since they use WiFi.

The specs also state that these lights can be controlled via Bluetooth or standard WiFi if you prefer to use older connections to your smart home platform via the Nanoleaf app. Moreover, while they can be used indoors, they can also be used outdoors with an IP44 rating.

In addition to the standard 16 million colors, you also get cool to warm white options. However, as they use Matter for connectivity, they do not provide Adaptive Lighting functionality, which is not really necessary for this type of lighting.

The lights come in two fixed lengths of 10 meters each, totaling 20 meters/65 feet, with a total of 250 individual LEDs, suitable for modest use cases. The entire package is also UL certified.
