Apple’s Phil Schiller is set to join OpenAI’s board in an 'Observer' capacity, marking a strategic alliance that integrates ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence.
As reported by Bloomberg, Phil Schiller, who has played a pivotal role in leading the App Store and once held the prestigious title of Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple, has been appointed to this position. Sources close to the situation divulged that Schiller will participate in board meetings purely in an observational role and will not have voting rights on board decisions.
During June's WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled its groundbreaking collaboration with OpenAI to integrate the ChatGPT model into the iPhone, iPad, and Mac through the upcoming Apple Intelligence suite. This exciting development means that users will soon experience enhanced functionalities of ChatGPT in their everyday interactions with Siri, powered by the new iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. These software updates are slated for release later this year.
Schiller’s 'Observer' status ensures he will attend board meetings without participating in votes, providing insights without influencing decisions directly.
Bloomberg did not confirm when Schiller would officially assume his Observer role, yet speculation suggests it could align with the launch of Apple Intelligence and the related software updates. Apple has confirmed that these will be made available alongside tvOS 18 and watchOS 11 later this year.
