Review of a home security kit

Cupertino, September 18, 2023

The Abode Security Kit offers a more affordable and simpler option for those who find the Abode Smart Security Kit intimidating or unnecessary. The core features of the system, such as ease of use and optional monitoring plans, remain unchanged. However, it is unfortunate that the Abode Security Kit does not support HomeKit. Nevertheless, it still provides easy operation, a good range of sensors, professional monitoring, and the ability to expand the system with additional components. The kit connects via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Ethernet, 4G, and supports Amazon Alexa and Google Home ecosystems. Compared to the more expensive Abode Essentials Gateway and Iota-powered systems, the Abode Security Kit is a great option for beginners, although the absence of HomeKit integration is a downside. The installation process is quick and simple, and the kit comes with a new hub that is smaller and sleeker than its predecessor. The hub has built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet, providing more flexibility in terms of placement. It also features a battery backup and a 93 dB siren. Additional sensors and devices can be added to customize the system's coverage. Abode offers different surveillance plans, ranging from basic features to 24/7 professional monitoring, with options for video history and home automation. The system integrates well with Google Home and Alexa, but lacks support for Zigbee and Z-Wave. Overall, the Abode Security Kit is a reliable and user-friendly DIY alarm system, though the absence of HomeKit integration may disappoint some users.
