The Meross WiFi Dual Smart Outlet Review

The Meross WiFi Dual Smart Outlet allows you to connect two accessories to the same plug and control them separately via HomeKit, while also being cheaper than buying two smart plugs separately.

Device Connected

Meross, a well-known company in the HomeKit ecosystem, offers a variety of HomeKit-enabled devices sold at a decent price. These devices range from plugs to lamps and even garage door openers.

At Homekit.Blog we are no strangers to Meross products and have experienced favorable use. The trend continues for the Dual Smart Outlets. If you want to control two accessories together from your devices, the Dual Smart Outlet is the solution. It offers the same capabilities as two separate smart plugs, but takes up less space.

A Simple Two-in-One Design

The Meross WiFi Dual Smart Outlet has a two-in-one design that uses only one socket. This is great for saving space and having one extra outlet open for another device.

Measuring 4.5 x 1.6 x 1.2 inches, the plug is small enough not to take up space for the other outlet. Since it only weighs five ounces, you don't have to worry about it falling out of the exhaust due to its weight. At the front there are two type-B sockets that can supply a maximum of 10A. There is a status light in the upper left corner (which glows green when the power is on and flashes red if there are connection problems with the plug).

Power Button

The only way to physically control the plug is with the solo button on the left, which controls the power from both sockets. This means you can't control each socket individually from the plug itself, and if you want to do that you'll have to do it in the app.

App Connectivity

Like most HomeKit-compatible accessories, you can choose which app you want to set up the Meross WiFi Dual Smart Outlet in: the Home app or its own app. You must connect the plug to a 2.4 GHz network, otherwise you cannot set it up. This is standard for most smart home devices.

Connection/Power Indicator Light

When we first installed the plug, we had some connection issues with the Dual Smart Outlet frequently disconnecting from the network and becoming unresponsive. However, after we added a WiFi extender to the room and restarted our router, the problem seemed to go away. While the solution was simple, it was still an inconvenience that required additional equipment to ensure the device stayed connected to our devices.

Home App Control

From the start, both outlets are grouped into one tile, but unlike other groups you create manually, you can't control them both at once with a single tap. You have to enter the tile and manually flip each outlet to turn them on or off. To make each socket separate tiles, go to the plug's settings and tap the option to show them as separate tiles.

Native App Control

Meross's native app lets you manage the basic functionality of the plug, but it's not as in-depth as the Home app. Once you add the Dual Smart Outlet to the native app, both outlets will be grouped into one tile. But unlike the Home app, you can't split them into individual tiles.

Conclusion

The Meross WiFi Dual Smart Outlet is a great way to control two devices separately from a single plug, at an affordable price. A single smart plug from Meross can retail for around $16. And while the Dual Smart Outlet costs the same amount, it controls double the number of devices while taking up the same amount of space.

The only downside would be that it doesn't fit in tight places width-wise, but that's a minor inconvenience that many may not have. If you want to control two devices from your device without taking up both sockets, the Meross WiFi Dual Smart Outlet is a great option. It offers the same usability as two plugs, but is significantly cheaper.
