Acoustic experts Sonos have unveiled a new entrant to their collection of smart connected speakers, the Arc Ultra. Priced at US$999 and now available for pre-order, the Arc Ultra comes with remarkable specifications, including AirPlay 2, which is particularly appealing for Apple Home users. It features spatial audio through the company’s unique Sound Motion* technology, which “provides deeper, richer bass and unlocks a completely new acoustic architecture with three additional drivers compared to the original Arc.” Furthermore, it supports Dolby Atmos, enhancing the immersive audio experience.

Additional features include support for WiFi and Bluetooth, as well as TruePlay, Sonos’ patented technology that allows the speaker to adjust its audio output based on the room's acoustics, similar to what was introduced with the original Apple HomePod. HDMI eARC compatibility is a standard feature (considering the price), enabling seamless integration with your television and other connected devices like amplifiers, allowing control via your TV’s remote.

While the original Sonos Arc – still available at a reduced price of US$799 – has numerous shared features, the Arc Ultra comes equipped with fourteen drivers versus the Arc’s eleven. The older model lacks the Sound Motion technology found in the Ultra. Moreover, the Ultra features an upgraded version of its speech enhancement technology and now supports TruePlay for both iOS and Android, unlike the Arc, which only supports iOS.

For those willing to invest in a premium audio experience, the Arc Ultra is specifically designed to pair with Sonos’ new Sub 4, delivering powerful bass through its dual custom woofers, alongside the Era 300 premium smart speakers. The Era 300 also includes AirPlay 2, Dolby Atmos, and TruePlay functionalities. Together, this audio set-up totals an impressive US$2426, saving you $270 compared to purchasing each component separately.
