Switchbot Introduces Retrofit Smart Lock for United States and Europe

Cupertino, March 7, 2024

SwitchBot today announced the launch of the SwitchBot Lock Pro, their next-generation retrofit smart lock, designed for both convenience and security yet easy to install and use, with its retrofit installation method. The SwitchBot Lock Pro is designed to be compatible with a variety of locks available, offering tailor-made retrofit solutions for households in both the EU/UK and the US. With support for different types of locks common in these diverse regions, users around the world can quickly upgrade their old door locks without having to drill or damage their existing door or lock. The installation process also preserves the original key functionality so you can still use it if necessary. The SwitchBot Lock Pro is compatible with the following lock types:
Euro profiles
Knob cylinders
For EU type locks, support will arrive shortly after the locks hit the market, British oval cylinders (expected support end of April)
Swiss round cylinders (expected support end of April)
Deadbolts
Multi-point lock (without Auto-Lock functionality)
The lock comes with an optional separate keypad with a biometric fingerprint sensor, and while it does include NFC, it won't have Apple HomeKey this time around. It's important to note that the lock itself is not compatible with Apple Home, even though it has Bluetooth. To use it on any platform, a Switchbot hub is required. If you already have the company's Hub 2, you should be able to add this lock to the hub and expose it to Matter as well. The built-in fingerprint sensor can store up to 100 individual prints, with a recognition accuracy of 98%. Speaking of unlocking methods, the company claims there are 15 methods available in total, although to be more precise, some of them can easily be combined into one separate option (NFC tags and cards are basically pretty much the same method). However, the Pro offers sufficient options for almost all usage situations, including your original keys, of course. The lock can also work with their newly available Switchbot Hub Mini 2, which was released in Japan in January this year. It should be noted that the company will currently only sell the hub with the Lock Pro as part of a package, with the hub itself not actually available separately. The company will offer the Lock Pro, Lock Pro + Keypad and Lock Pro, Keypad + Hub Mini 2 as three optional packages. The new hub is Matter-enabled, which allows the lock to be exposed to your Matter platform, but also another reason why there is currently no Apple HomeKey support. When it comes to powering the lock, there are two methods, both battery based; You can run the Pro on four standard AA batteries, with standard use claiming 270 days (about 9 months), or you can use the company's own rechargeable battery packs, which offer up to 12 months between charges, with the design allowing for this allows one of the two packs to be removed for charging, while the lock continues to function with the remaining battery pack, for uninterrupted use. While the Lock Pro is listed on the company's website, stock is currently out of stock, although it should be available there on March 31st, while the product sold through Amazon will be available around April 10th.
