German Smart Home Products Maker Eve Launches First Smart Outlet in US

After initially unveiling three new or updated products in December, German smart home products maker Eve has now quickly launched the first of these in the US market. The Eve Energy Outlet is the first smart outlet for the North American market to launch with Matter over Thread, which is a well-deserved honor for releasing such a product on the exact date they originally promised. Because it uses Matter over Thread, not only does it not require a hub, but it also works with all major smart home platforms: Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and of course Apple Home. This is relatively new territory for the company, which before updating many of its existing products to Matter over Thread was only compatible with Apple Home. The new dual socket includes two Type B sockets and a matching front panel, with standard dimensions, should you wish to use your own faceplates. Additionally, it comes with two LEDs that indicate the power status of each outlet and act as buttons to control the power to the individual outlets. Finally, assuming you use the Eve app or SmartThings, you can reap the benefits of energy monitoring. While this product essentially does the same thing as the Eve Energy Smart Plug, this should appeal to more people aesthetically, where a smart plug protruding from a wall socket might seem less appealing. Furthermore, at just €49.95, this device is cheaper than two separate smart plugs, which cost €39.95. That said, if your smart plug becomes unresponsive for any reason, you can unplug it and restart it. When it comes to the Eve Energy Outlet, it appears that you can factory reset the outlet, but restarting it will require you to turn off the power to the circuit breaker, which in most cases will affect more than just one outlet. You can buy the Eve Energy Outlet today on Amazon.com for US$49.95.
