The IFA in Berlin unveils a plethora of exciting smart home updates

Cupertino, September 4, 2023

In this week's episode of the HomeKit Insider podcast, we're taking a look at the recent IFA announcements and other smart home news.

This week there was a plethora of news from the Internationale Funkausstellung, the Berlin-based conference better known as IFA. At this European trade event, several new technology products were announced that would be released in the coming months.

Philips Hue has entered the camera market with several wired and battery-powered options. They don't support HomeKit Secure Video, but plan to support HomeKit once Matter has expanded to include cameras.

Then Eve has a few new products, including a wireless climate controller and also Eve Play - an AirPlay 2 receiver for wired speakers. The recently acquired smart home maker also announced Matter support for its MotionBlinds products.

In addition, Aqara also has new equipment, although not everything will arrive in America. The new relay switch and the smart lock U200 were particularly interesting.

Finally, Zagg, Belkin and Anker all had new Qi2 chargers. The upcoming iPhone 15 series is rumored to support this new wireless charging standard.
