WiiM Announces New Audiophile Streamers with AirPlay 2 Compatibility

Cupertino, May 10, 2024

The audio-centric company, WiiM, which we have previously spotlighted with their WiiM Mini(read our review HERE, and check out the video HERE), has unveiled two brand-new products set for launch later this year: The enhanced version of the existing WiiM Amp, titled WiiM Amp Pro, and a totally innovative creation, the WiiM Amp Ultra.

Introducing the latter first, this novel digital amplifier serves up a plethora of streaming options, encompassing crucial AirPlay 2 along with built-in integrations from well-known names like Amazon Music, Spotify, and many more. The Ultra's standout attribute is a full-color touchscreen display - a WiiM debut. This display front and center exhibits album arts of tracks or albums currently playing, along with widgets and various settings for the amp itself.

In terms of the rear, it is significantly engineered with stereo phono inputs/outputs, an output for a subwoofer, a coaxial output. Along with these, it contains SPDIF inputs/outputs for digital connectivity, an HDMI ARC port, and a LAN port for those desiring a wired connection. Plus, there’s also a USB port for playing audio from a flash drive.

For networking, aside from the ethernet link, the WiiM Ultra additionally supports WiFi 6E and you can also connect directly to the amp as it includes Bluetooth 5.3.

In parallel with the WiiM Ultra, the existing WiiM Amp has been upgraded to the WiiM Amp Pro - don't confuse this with the WiiM Pro, which we covered earlier. In terms of design, the Pro model closely mirrors its predecessor externally, with all the upgrades tucked on the inside. Therefore, just like the Ultra, the Pro receives both WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 (compared to the former model's WiFi 5, and Bluetooth 5.0), and a superior SNR (signal to noise ratio).

Both products carry fairly high price points, with the Ultra priced at approximately US$329 (presumably a pinch for the full color touchscreen), and an even higher US$369 for the Amp Pro, a bump-up from the WiiM Amp’s price of US$299.
