Yale Introduces an Array of Innovations Including HomeKey Smart Lock

Cupertino, September 27, 2023

Yale has introduced two new smart deadbolts as part of its Assure range, following the release of Assure Lock 2 in 2021. This announcement comes at a time when there are still doubts about the promised release of Matter over Thread module for both Assure 2 and older locks. The first lock is the Yale Assure 2 Touch, which features a fingerprint sensor integrated into the logo above the keypad. Similar to the original Assure, the Touch is available in Keyed and Key Free options and can connect to Apple Home via Bluetooth or WiFi, depending on the model chosen. It is available in three finishes: black suede, oil-rubbed bronze, and satin nickel. The Yale Assure Plus offers standard Apple HomeKey functionality but does not include a fingerprint sensor. It only comes in a keyless option with a keypad, along with Apple HomeKey access options and app or automation controls. The Plus is offered in Bluetooth and WiFi variants and is currently only available in satin nickel. The 'Touch' model is currently available for purchase on Amazon.com, with prices starting at US$199.99 (Bluetooth) or US$279.99 (WiFi). The Plus model is priced at an extra ten dollars, starting at US$209.99 (Bluetooth) or US$289.99 (WiFi). The Yale Assure 2 is still listed as available, with prices starting at US$179.99 (Bluetooth) or US$259.99 (WiFi). This announcement seems to clarify that the Yale Assure 2 will not receive Apple HomeKey functionality, leaving uncertain the availability of a separate Matter over Thread module.
