ZemiSmart Release Matter Switch Module

Cupertino, August 1, 2023

As we move into the second half of 2023, signs of Matter-based devices continue to emerge from various sources. One such source is from ZemiSmart, who have already released the first Matter over Thread Curtain system, in addition to a Matter lamp and roller blind motor. Now the company is holding presales for their latest device, the Matter over WiFi Smart Switch Module. ZemiSmart Matter over WiFi Smart Relay This - if you're not aware of such a device - sits between a regular light switch and the wires to power the switch, allowing you to control the power to the lights remotely or through automations and scenes, all while keeping your standard switches in place. It does require a neutral wire, but it is capable of operating two switches (presumably in a single gang). Since it uses Matter (over Wi-Fi), it means it will work with Apple Home, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings, although Amazon Alexa isn't yet compatible, according to the website. Works with 2 switches and 3 way setups In addition, it appears that the switch can even be used in a 3 position switch to control a set of lights controlled by two sets of switches in different locations. Physical Buttons on the Device The device itself, which seems more designed for European control boxes, also comes with two buttons for both pairing and direct control, though it's another matter how you'd use this while keeping the wires safely out of reach. While the shape may not seem appropriate for use in North American homes, the device itself can operate with 100~240V AC at 50/60Hz, so it will work just about anywhere. Zemismart is currently selling this device on their website for just US$14.90 (40% off) plus shipping, so it seems like a bargain if you want to keep your existing light fixtures in place but want them to be smart too.
