As someone who loves technology, it's easy to get excited about new things. I like to get in touch with the latest gadgets, but I know for those who don't deal with these things, that seems like a nightmare. My wife might care less about technology. As long as it makes her life easier, she is satisfied. She wants it to work. Immediately after Christmas, I purchased the August Smart Lock Pro (at a huge discount due to the iPhone 9to5Toys app). After a week when I had it, my wife's comment was "it's a game changer".
HomeKit weekly is a series focused on smart home accessories, tips and tricks for automation and everything to do with Apple's smart home frame.
For years I have heard smart locks, but for some reason, I thought the installation needed to change the door handle. Once I started to look a little closer to her, I realized that I only had to replace the inside of the block. I told my wife that we would buy an August Smart Lock Pro the next time it went on sale. A few days later, it happened, so I immediately purchased it from Amazon. One of the key things that pushed me to the Pro model was HomeKit support. My general rule at this point for smart home products is that I have to work with HomeKit for me to consider. While a new model will be released later this year, I didn't want to wait for it to be released.
The installation process
I am not an extremely handy person, so I was worried that I would damage my jam in this process. To my surprise, installing the August Smart Lock Pro was one of the simplest smart home products I have ever installed.
August did a great job building a short video for each step. The first step is to use the painters tape to ensure the fall of the outer mortal does not fall. Second, remove the inside of the jam. Then browse through the adapters provided to connect August Lock to your deadlock. In total, the hardware installation took ten minutes.
Once the hardware was configured, I went to work on configuring the software. Software configuration is another place where August did an excellent job of making it easy. She walked me through the calibration process, sharing it with my wife over the August application, then adding it to HomeKit.
The total period from disconnection to operation was approximately twenty minutes. For this one hates home projects with passion, it was painless. If you have maintained a smart lock due to the perceived complexity, you will definitely choose a Pro Smart Lock Lock August.
Daily use of Smart Smart Pro Pro
My home includes a two-car garage that I used quite often before getting the lock. On any given day, it may have increased fivefold. Now, only the first thing is used in the morning and we park on the driveway until we get home at night. We put less wear on the garage door, thanks to the August Smart Lock Pro.
HomeKit support with August Lock Pro
We set it up where it automatically unlocks as we go home, so we don't have to agree to find our keys as we try to bring our kids home. As we leave, it automatically locks. We also set it to lock automatically when we get home after five minutes. It's a perfect example of how smart home products should work. We don't have to think about that. It blends perfectly with our lifestyle and works behind the scenes.
Thanks to its HomeKit support, I can always connect with Siri to make sure my door is locked. They can also set it to work with other automations. At the moment, I need to set the automatic lock by HomeKit automation when our "Night" mode continues. If the door was still unlocked, I would know HomeKit is blocking it.
Wrap on August Smart Lock Pro
Overall, I like this product. I can't believe I didn't buy it as soon as it came out. While I have no reason to use it, I'm thinking of using it all the exterior doors of the house. Most likely, I will wait for the model to appear later this year. When it comes out, I will put it on my front door and move the existing one to another front door.
If you have been hesitant to go into the world of smart door locks because of the fear of installation, look no further than August Smart Lock Pro.
