The process of updating the Meross Smart Plug firmware with HomeKit is a mess

Cupertino, October 15, 2020

I really liked what Meross did with the HomeKit elements they produced, but their process of updating the firmware of these devices is rubbish (at least for smart plugs).

I added the plugs via HomeKit when I configured them, the Meross application is not required. In the Home app, it now tells me that the outlets have a firmware update and I need to download the Meross app (which requires me to create a Meross account); annoying, but whatever, the real problem is unlike other IoT devices, it doesn't require access to the Home app, so it can find Meross items that need updates, instead it makes you configure the devices * again * - but when you try not to find the devices. Grrrrr ...

The plugs work well, so no need to update, but the message in the Home app is very annoying. We hope that Meross will improve the process in the future, taking more into account its HomeKit users.
